50th FILM FINALS EVENT
Golden Anniversary: Blueprints for a Generation
The Department of Cinema at San Francisco State University presents the 50th Film Finals Event on Friday May 14, 2010. The next wave of film begins at San Francisco State. Scores of innovative independent filmmakers and future Academy Award winners work nonstop to get their films accepted to this annual juried screening. Be the first to see these emerging filmmakers at the Bay Area’s premier college cinema event. Demonstrating the diverse creative approaches to film production that proliferates at SFSU, the evening will feature an animation program, a juried film program as well as a retrospective section of films from the past 50 years. Cinema students will receive awards at a special ceremony and guest speakers include Academy Award winner Walter Murch (The only person to even win Oscars for both sound mixing and film editing; work includes Apocalypse Now, The English Patient and Touch of Evil) and Academy Award winner and former alumni Jonas Rivera (SFSU ’96, 2010 Academy Award nomination for Up). The program is produced by students in the Cinematheque Management, taught by Kirthi Nath, as well as the Animation Collective.
